A reporter came to our house a little over a week ago to interview and take pictures about this very site and our Ultimate Baby Bargain Guide. There was a nice big article in the Georgetown News-Graphic on Sat June 6th. You can see a copy of the article here:

Well, it’s almost here. Shauna’s official due date is October 12th. It’s been a roller coaster of a week. I won’t get into all the gory details here, but the delivery of our first resulted in 4th degree tears for my wife. When we found out we were expecting again, the doctor’s #1 priority was to ensure that does not happen again because it can lead to fecal incontinence for the rest of her life. So our options from the very beginning were c-section or if baby was small enough we could induce labor early to avoid the extra 1/2 lb per week weight gain in the final few weeks. Everything looked good for an early induction to avoid the c-section. We went in this past Thursday for an amniocentesis to ensure the lungs were mature (required for induction under 39 weeks). We were scheduled for the induction on Friday, but everything was called off after the results came back Thursday afternoon with immature lungs. So instead we ended up back in the Dr’s office to create a plan B. After much discussion and consideration, we have elected to proceed with the induction 1 week prior to the due date. Lungs are essentially guaranteed to be mature. It’s slightly more risk for tearing because our baby will have an extra week to gain more weight. It’s a little scary manually inducing labor rather than waiting for nature, but under our doctor’s advice, this is the safest and best option for my wife and my new son.  Shauna will be admitted into our local hospital Sun, Oct 5th with a low dose of the labor inducing drug administered overnight with the delivery expected Mon the 6th…one week from today. Of course, this close to the due date also means she could go into labor before then anyway. So this week we are waiting in nervous anticipation.

Now, enough of the personal update. I know you are reading this in order to get baby bargain advice. With everything going on, I have not had time to prepare an intelligent and valuable post today – it is my goal to post every Monday no matter what. So I’ve decided that in celebration of the coming birth of our son, I will give away a free 1 year subscription to Parents Magazine. You’ve probably flipped through an issue at the OB’s office. To enter simply send an email to me at josh@mommydaddysavers.com and I will randomly select a winner on Friday. You will be notified by email. If you want to include your physical address in your entry there is nothing further you will need to do.
