Our vote: waste of money. There are lots of amazing claims out there, but when it comes down to it you would be better off spending your money elsewhere. We’ve gotten great results just using regular, everyday lotion through two pregnancies. But without being simultaneously pregnant in a duplicate body without using any lotion, there really is no way to tell for sure if things would have turned out the exact same anyway. If you want to use some lotion don’t waste money on expensive “maternity-specific” lotions, potions, and creams.

If you are a reader, it is very easy to buy multiple books on nursing/feeding your baby, multiple books on different sleep methods, multiple books on creating a structure or using an on-demand system, and on and on. Tracy Hogg does a phenomenal job in “Secrets of the Baby Whisperer: How to Calm, Connect, and Communicate with Your Baby.” Make this your first purchase after “What To Expect When You’re Expecting” and read it BEFORE you have your baby. It’s humorous and easy to read and like us, you might decide this is the only book you’ll need after baby is born. New is $7.99 and you can find used copies for half that. Try this and avoid bookshelves of books you don’t need.

Did anyone see the news story April 30th on the Today Show about Tummy Tubs? You can see the story here: http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/30499759/. Basically the lady found this tub had been in use over in Europe since 1996, found a source in Canada who later went out of business. So then she started buying them 20 at a time from a manufacturer in Germany and kind of accidently started a business, stocking her basement full of Tummy Tubs.

But why all the fuss? Are tummy tubs a true baby bargain or just an expensive waste of money? I must admit that I find them strangely fascinating. However, I’m not convinced that being on a strict budge I would splurge for such a high priced tub to use for such a short time. If you go to her website you’ll see a message that she had to order more because of the exposure on the Today Show and orders won’t resume shipping until June. Apparently a lot of parents really like this idea. Let me know if you ordered one and what you think of it.
