Baby Shower Bargain

Author: Josh

Your hostess needs games and supplies any way. Suggest a “make the coolest bib” contest. All that is needed are cheap, plain-jane cloth bibs in bulk and some fabric paint. Have guests design their own bib as they arrive and spread on table to dry. After everyone has finished his or her bib(s) vote on a winner and award the prize. Guests have fun. Mom gets a bunch of bibs. Type up a sheet of cute baby slogans typically found on bibs for ideas.

Our vote: waste of money. There are lots of amazing claims out there, but when it comes down to it you would be better off spending your money elsewhere. We’ve gotten great results just using regular, everyday lotion through two pregnancies. But without being simultaneously pregnant in a duplicate body without using any lotion, there really is no way to tell for sure if things would have turned out the exact same anyway. If you want to use some lotion don’t waste money on expensive “maternity-specific” lotions, potions, and creams.

If you are a reader, it is very easy to buy multiple books on nursing/feeding your baby, multiple books on different sleep methods, multiple books on creating a structure or using an on-demand system, and on and on. Tracy Hogg does a phenomenal job in “Secrets of the Baby Whisperer: How to Calm, Connect, and Communicate with Your Baby.” Make this your first purchase after “What To Expect When You’re Expecting” and read it BEFORE you have your baby. It’s humorous and easy to read and like us, you might decide this is the only book you’ll need after baby is born. New is $7.99 and you can find used copies for half that. Try this and avoid bookshelves of books you don’t need.

Pregnancy Books

Author: Josh

NEVER pay full price for a pregnancy book (or any book for that matter). Check your library first for free use. If you want to own it you can of course browse yard sales. But if you want it now, then online is your best bet. Everyone knows about ebay, but my favorite for books is http://www.Amazon.com. Do a search for the book you want. Under the listing you will see something like this: “Buy new for $24.95 or 17 Used from $7.95.” Click on the used and find one that is in Good or Like New condition. These are from independent sellers – not Amazon. You pay a flat shipping fee of $3.99. Many books can be found as low as $.01 plus shipping.

Have you ever heard of a Mom 2 Mom sale? Apparently this has become quite popular in the Detroit area. I imagine with all the layoffs in the automobile industry it has forced some creativity to take place.

Here’s the idea:

You organize moms with kids outgrowing clothes and toys to gather together. It works sort of like a cross between a yard sale and a flea market.  A local church or school hosts the event. They charge $10-$20 to rent a table and $1 admission to the sale-goers.  A very simple concept and great way to provide bargains to new moms & dads from other moms & dads.

Consider organizing a Mom 2 Mom sale in your commuity.
