Some websites have daily deals that provide opportunities to buy name brand items at severely discounted prices. Our favorite baby related bargain sites are http://www.babysteals.com and http://www.mamabargains.com. They both offer daily, or until sold out, deals on baby items. Another new daily deal is http://www.biglots.com. They are listing, online only, a different product each day that they don’t have enough of to place in all their stores.

When you shop for baby items and personal items make sure you have a bargain mindset. Don’t just pick up the usual. Take a step back and see if a comparable brand is on sale. Look at other brands. Look at other sizes. Be aware though, that larger is not always cheaper. Some manufacturers have started pricing their larger units higher per serving, ounce, etc. than the smaller bottles because we have been trained to get the bigger and therefore better value. If they don’t show the price per X so you can compare then get out a calculator. It only takes a second to check. Most cell phones have a calculator on them so no excuses.

Bring Your Own Pills

Author: Josh

Have you ever been to a ball game or amusement park and bought the food? They have you locked into their venue and know you will need food so they ratchet the prices up very high. The hospital does the exact same thing with all those pills they give you while in the hospital for the birth of your baby. They know you aren’t going to get up during post-delivery recovery and run to Wal-Mart to get ibuprofen so they chargeyou a bundle. When we got the itemized bill for our first child in 2006 we were amazed at the charges for things like $8.80 for ibuprofen, $1.60 for each vitamin, and $2.20 for stool softener. The second time around in 2008 we brought our own ibuprofen, pre-natal vitamins and Wal-Mart brand stool softener. We still got dosage amounts from the nurse and showed them what we brought, but saved a lot of money over the 3 days by taking our own.

Cash is still King

Author: Josh

When shopping at yard sales, flea markets, consignment shops, classified ads, and even some retail stores…always use cash. Preferably small bills that you can count out. Counting out bills when negotiating for a better price is a powerful visual for the person selling the item you want. You can get a better price when you show the money than just offering a lower price without cash in hand.
