The more prepared you are the better baby bargains you can find. If you wait until the last minute you are likely to make a panic purchase, which I guarantee will not be the best deal for you. Let’s take this a step further – preparing you, your spouse, and your baby ahead of time for changes like mom returning to work will help you avoid panic purchases.

Let’s look at a real life example – our life! With our first, we started Ezekiel on a bottle of expressed milk around 3 weeks. We continued working with him, not necessarily every day, but often enough so that when my wife returned to work he did pretty well making the transition from nursing exclusively to only at night. With our second, we got a little lazy and didn’t really start until about 10 weeks old. Gabriel would eat from a bottle, but not the best. My wife returned to work this month and Gabriel only ate 1 to 1.5 oz per 8 hr workday as opposed to the normal 4-6oz per feeding every few hours. It was stressful enough for my wife to return to work and then add onto that a baby that virtually quit eating during the day and you have a recipe for panic.

After two days of that I’m making a Wal-mart run and buying a whole new set of bottles to see if he’ll eat from those. It still wasn’t working so then I go back and buy different nipples, anything to get him to eat and get my wife to stop worrying and stressing out. We did end up fixing everything that weekend and things have normalized and Gabriel is eating well again.

If we had been more prepared the panic purchases would not have happened. Be prepared, don’t panic.
